Rovers Ladies will hope to secure further silverware for the club when they take on Leicester City in the final of the FA Women’s Premier League Cup this afternoon (3pm).

Ladies manager Gemma Donnelly says reaching the club’s first ever Premier League Cup final is an achievement in itself, but wants to mark it with victory.

The final takes place at Chesterfield’s Proact Stadium where Rovers face a Leicester side who beat them in the league earlier this month.

So far in the competition Rovers have seen off Stoke City, via a penalty shoot-out, before 2-1 victories over Liverpool Marshall Feds and Brighouse Town in round two and the quarter-finals respectively.

They made it in to the final after a penalty shoot-out win over Coventry United, with Donnelly pleased with their run so far.

“We are delighted to make our first appearance in the final of the Premier League Cup,” she said.

“This is not only a fabulous achievement for the players, but to all involved in the set-up within Blackburn Rovers Ladies.

“We are extremely proud and excited to be involved in this competition, we look forward to the occasion and will enjoy the experience.

“May I take this opportunity to wish Leicester the best for the game, but of course I hope that we will be strong enough to prevail as League Cup champions on Sunday.”

Meanwhile, Rovers moved above Leicester in the FA Women’s Northern Premier League table after a 6-1 win at Fylde Ladies on Thursday.

Natasha Flint continued her impressive recent form, scoring a hat-trick, while Saffron Jordan, Kaylea Cunliffe and an own goal wrapped up the scoring.

The win leaves Donnelly’s second place side just one point behind leaders Middlesbrough, with still two games in hand and five matches remaining in the season as they look to defend their title.

They also have a Lancashire FA Women’s Challenge Cup final against Chorley Ladies next month.

Rovers Ladies’ development squad are also celebrating success having won the FA Women’s Premier League Reserve Northern Division for the second season in succession.

Ellie Cash’s side have won 13 of their 15 league matches to date, scoring 55 and conceding just eight.
