Tony Mowbray says no-one will remember who finished as League One champions in a year’s time - but that won’t stop him from giving everything to claim top spot.

Rovers head in to their final two games sitting one point behind Wigan Athletic who have a superior goal difference, and with arguably an easier run-in.

While Rovers face play-off chasing Charlton Athletic tomorrow afternoon, the Latics host an AFC Wimbledon side who are battling relegation.

On the final day Oxford United are the visitors to Ewood Park while Wigan visit Doncaster Rovers.

Rovers have led the way in recent months as Wigan played games in hand following an impressive FA Cup run, but the Latics are now back on top although Mowbray admits securing automatic promotion, rather than the title, was the main aim for both sides last summer.

He said: “We’re not in pole position I would have to say.

“If we hadn’t conceded a last minute goal at Bristol Rovers then we would have been. That shows how tight it has been.

“Huge credit to Wigan, Paul (Cook) has done a great job, they have some very good players, and what will be will be.

“We’ll go and try and win them, as will they, and whoever finishes on top, good luck to them.

“The other one will also be in the same league next year and in a year’s time no-one will remember who finished first or second.

“Hopefully there will be a good turnout at Ewood next weekend and we can find a performance to show the fans that we’re a hungry team and trying to win games.”
