ELLIOTT Bennett is eyeing a hat-trick of wins over younger brother Kyle when they line up against each other this afternoon.

Bennett senior has so far been on the winning side when Rovers faced Portsmouth in September and for Norwich City against Doncaster Rovers in 2012.

Kyle made the switch from Pompey to Bristol Rovers in January and scored in their 1-1 draw with Charlton last weekend.

With Elliott now operating at right-back for Tony Mowbray’s side, the pair could well be in direct competition down today.

The Rovers man told the Lancashire Telegraph the pair have enjoyed some family rivalry and banter ahead of the game, but that is where the pleasantries will end.

He said: “I’m 2-0 against him at the minute so I’m hoping that can go to three.

“I’m delighted for him that he got his move down there and is doing well.

“All brotherly rivalry and banter will be before the game and once it kicks off he’s just another opponent in my teams’ way of doing what we want this season.”

They played countless minutes against each other as youngsters, so does Elliott have a plan to combat his younger brother?

“Just smash him, that’s the only one I’ve got up my sleeve!” he joked. “If I don’t then I might be in for a tough afternoon. He’s a good player. We’ve had a lot of kickabouts, played in the same team and against each other before.

“It’s another one for the family, great for my mum and my dad to see both of their children playing professional football at any level and I’m looking forward to the game, but the most important thing is winning.”

Rovers make the trip to the Memorial Stadium on the back of Tuesday’s 0-0 draw at Gillingham.

They can move seven points clear of Shrewsbury with a 13th away success of the season after Paul Hurst’s stalemate at Bradford.

On the midweek draw, Bennett said: “We want to win every football match so when you don’t you are disappointed.”

“But you have to think about the positives, we went away to Gillingham and put another point on the board and have five games left now to get as many more as we can.

“If we can go to Bristol Rovers and win then Tuesday night’s point becomes a really good one.”

The Rovers fans have once again sold out their ticket allocation, and look set to do the same for their remaining away games at Doncaster Rovers and Charlton Athletic later this month.

On the level of support the team have received, Bennett added: “When you get relegated and the turbulent time the club has been through in the last few seasons, it’s tough for supporters.

“One of the things we’re keen to do is to give something back to them, I don’t think there would be anything better than promotion back to the Championship.

“That’s’ what we’re working to do and hopefully we can repay the faith, the long journeys and make it all worthwhile at the end of the season.”
