Adam Armstrong is looking to fire Rovers back to the top of League One when they return to action against Bradford on Thursday.

The Newcastle loanee has seven goals in his last seven outings which saw him claim the division’s player of the month award for February.

He is aiming to become the first Rovers player since Jordan Rhodes in 2012/13 to score in five consecutive matches at Ewood Park and continue his excellent form in front of goal.

The 21-year-old scored twice in the win over Blackpool on March 10, following up strikes against Wigan Athletic, Bury and Oldham.

Rovers’ 19-day break from action will end with a televised clash against the Bantams, and three points would see Tony Mowbray’s men return to the summit.

“I have scored the last few games and would like to keep that up,” Armstrong said. “I’m working hard in training and hopefully on Thursday I can get more goals.

“The atmosphere (at Ewood) and everything involved with it has been really good.

“I’m enjoying playing football, my confidence is high and I feel like I can score in every game.

“I’ve got seven goals now and want to keep on pushing. I said before I came that I have always had high expectations but if you had said to me before that I would score seven goals then I would have taken that.

“We still have nine games left and I have to be pushing for more.”

Rovers’ trip to Gillingham was postponed on March 17 because of the weather, while the scheduled game at Doncaster on March 24 was called off due to international call-ups.

The break has seen both Shrewsbury and Wigan leapfrog them in the table, with Mowbray’s men third with nine games to play.

But Armstrong is relishing the promotion battle and is desperate for Rovers to return to action with a win.

“It’s been horrible,” added the striker of the enforced break. “Our main aim is that we want to play games and win matches.

“We’re flying in the league but have seen people doing well around us and we want to keep on top of that.

“We can’t wait for Thursday to try and get three points.

“You have to expect them (Shrewsbury and Wigan) to win their games but it’s down to us now and we have to try and win every game we play. If we have that mindset then nothing will stop us.

“If we win every game then we’re promoted automatically but we have to take every game as it comes and put in every effort to get the points.

“That competition motivates us and it all starts on Thursday for the last nine games. ”

Armstrong has a double figure goal return in his sights and is enjoying his most prolific spell since a loan move to Coventry City in the 2015-16 campaign when he also played under Mowbray.

after netting seven times in his last seven matches.

And he says the relationship with his manager, and team-mates, has brought the best out of him.

“It’s been perfect,” he said of settling in to life in East Lancashire. “Before I came I knew the gaffer and a few of the lads so knew that I’d settle in and I’ve done that.

“Things are going really well at the minute but I have to keep working hard and keep scoring goals.”
