I SAID last week that Shrewsbury might start to feel the pressure after their defeat at Ewood Park, writes Simon Garner.

And it was important that Rovers took advantage of Paul Hurst’s side dropping points with a win at Fleetwood Town.

With the run Rovers are on and the position they find themselves in, you can’t wait for the next game to come along to try and keep it going. Confidence will be high and they will have the determination now to stay in the top two.

Having been part of Rovers teams who have been chasing promotion, when you are in the play-off spots it’s about keeping up the pressure on the top two. You can’t affect their results but you can keep applying pressure with your own form.

The experience within this Rovers squad means they will be looking to build that gap to third place now, as well as closing the deficit to Wigan. They will be targeting top spot but ultimately looking to secure a place in the top two by building a gap to third.

With the January transfer window still open, one thing Rovers must do is keep hold of their star men.

Boss Tony Mowbray will probably be dreading his phone going but the way Blackburn are as a club and with the finances in the game, it is how it is always going to be.

When your players are doing well, as the likes of Bradley Dack are, then there will always be interest from other clubs.

But I’m sure Tony will be convincing his players that he is building something at Rovers.

The owners seem to have backed him and hopefully they will back him again to keep hold of these players.

Rovers now face back-to-back home games against Northampton and Walsall and will go into those fixtures in confident mood.

It can be very difficult playing at home against teams who will probably be looking to come and shut up shop but Rovers are playing with the confidence to get two home wins.
