CRAIG Conway is hoping he’s now back for good and wants to play an important role in the ‘good things happening’ at Rovers.

Conway is in line for his third start within a week against Charlton this afternoon having been hampered by injuries so far this season.

Three separate injuries have restricted him to just eight league outings so far, but the 32-year-old admits an eagerness to get back playing too soon may have forced him to break down previously.

But feeling better than he has all season and having given himself an extra week on the training ground before making his return, the winger is looking positively forward rather than frustratingly back.

He said: “It’s brilliant to be back playing, it’s been a frustrating few months.

“I feel better than I have felt all season.

“Before I have probably come back too soon, I wasn’t quite right and I probably knew that myself. But it’s good to be back and feel myself as if I’m fully fit.

“It had been one thing after another, little niggles, not major injuries but it was so frustrating but at the end of the day it’s part of being a footballer and you’re going to get injuries at some point.

“For me they seemed to come one after another at the start of the season but hopefully I’m over them now and I do feel really good so I’m looking forward rather back and being frustrated.

“There are a lot of good things happening and I want to be part of that.”

Conway admits he didn’t know he was capable of playing 90 minutes at Peterborough last weekend, though circumstances dictated that given injuries to Peter Whittingham and Corry Evans.

A slight injury concern over Marcus Antonsson saw Conway involved at Crewe Alexandra in Wednesday’s FA Cup replay in which he came through an hour before being replaced by Sam Hart.

His return to action coincided with Elliott Bennett’s four-game suspension following his second red card of the season.

That presented Conway with the chance to make an immediate impact from the starting line-up, with Rovers’ options out wide also limited by injuries to Harry Chapman (hamstring) and Ben Gladwin (knee).

“I’ve been in football long enough to realise it can change so quickly,” he said.

“It’s unfortunate for Benno, I really feel for him because I think his two sendings off have been really harsh but he will tell you himself that these things happen in football.

“He’s so frustrated but at the end of the day when he’s back he will be ready to go again and the frustration and the cloud has gone now and he’s been right behind the lads.

“He will get his time again when he’s back.

“The way things have worked out I’ve come back and been playing, that’s brilliant for me and we’ve kept winning.

“It’s another massive game on Saturday but we go in to it confident thinking we can get the three points and feel we can win every game.”
