ACCRINGTON Stanley were held to a 0-0 draw by 10-men Brechin City in the first of their three-match tour of Scotland.

John Coleman's side had a man advantage for most of the match but could not make it count against the Scottish League Division Two part-timers.

The Glebe Park side were reduced to 10 men on the half hour mark when David White was sent for handling Paul Mullen's goalbound effort off the line.

But John Miles failed to convert the resulting spot kick when Brechin keeper Chris McCluskey guessed right to keep out his effort.

It proved to be the best chance of a match where clear cut opportunities were at a premium.

Centre back Mark Roberts was the pick of the touring side as he excelled in the pivotal role, marshalling the Stanley rearguard superbly. After the break, young Stanley keeper Martin Fearon replaced Ian Dunbavin in goal and made three fine saves from Kevin Byers, Stuart Callaghan and Iain Russell to ensure the Reds shared the honours. Stanley are still waiting for their first pre-season win having drawn with both Burnley and New Mills and lost at Clitheroe and Prescot Cables.

Next up is Abroath on Thursday before completing the whistle-stop at East Fife on Saturday.
