CRAIG Conway could return for Blackburn Rovers’ first home game of the season against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

Conway missed the final four friendlies of pre-season, and the opening two games of this campaign, with a hamstring injury.

But boss Tony Mowbray hopes to welcome the Scot back in to the fold in what will be a big boost for Rovers as they look to get their league campaign up and running against the newly-promoted side.

“I think we will have Craig Conway back at the weekend who we can throw in to the equation,” Mowbray said.

“He fits in to the shape and the formations we look to play extremely well, he has a great workrate, a goal threat and when we are putting this squad together we need to have certain types of footballers who could play in the areas of the pitch we want them to.”

Rovers have a number of options in the attacking midfield areas.  Although Bradley Dack (hamstring) is set to miss this weekend’s match, Ben Gladwin returned from a groin injury to play his part as a second half substitute in the Carabao Cup win at Coventry City.

Harry Chapman, as he did at Southend United, also looked lively when coming off the bench, and Mowbray was pleased with their contributions.

He added: “It’s good that there are some dilemmas.

“The two lads that came on showed they had some quality and some talent.

“Harry, while only a baby really, is a positive lad, he had two or three shots at their goal.

“Gladwin ghosts past people like they’re not there, moves the ball foot to foot and can threaten as well.

“They just have to bed in to our group and show the fans what they can do.

“We have to show that when injuries come along, as they have, that we have some flexible players who can come in to the team.”
