TONY Mowbray is working hard to bring in at least two more permanent additions to his squad and revealed Rovers have bids on the table for potential signings.

Rovers have recruited four midfielders to date, with Mowbray now targeting other areas of his squad, particularly in attack with bids understood to have been lodged for striking targets.

Mowbray will look to make around four more signings in all, with at least two of those on permanent deals, as he tries to fill the gaps in his squad following the departure of 12 players after relegation.

Outlining his plans, the Rovers head coach said: “I think there’s got to be a couple more permanent signings at least, and then two or three more loan signings to bulk the squad up.

“We will then see before the window, we’ll have played a few games before then, see if there’s anything that needs topping up.

“We’re doing it bit by bit, chipping away at it, as sometimes you can get carried away by bringing everyone in at once.

“You have to try and identity the right ones and then work hard to get them.

“We have targets and are working hard behind the scenes, talking to clubs, and it’s difficult sometimes to get deals done when the players aren’t back, unless they have made their minds up that they are leaving.

“Sometimes you have to force the hand of a club, make some offers and see what happens.

“We have a few offers in at the moment and we’re waiting for replies.”

Rovers released six players at the end of last season, while their five loanees returned to their parent clubs. Connor Mahoney rejected the offer of a new deal and is set to join Premier League side Bournemouth.

That will take the number of departures to 12, though Rovers are expected to operate with a smaller squad next season.

Mowbray is the man tasked with recruiting players this summer following the departure of former Director of Football and Operations Paul Senior in the wake of relegation.

And he added: “It’s a big job recruiting new players.

“We had seven players out of contract and another five loan players, some good players among them.

“So we have plenty of places in the squad to fill, we have just started that, but there has to be a lot more action between now and the end of the transfer window.

“In an ideal world we get the squad together before the games start, but it’s not always easy.”
