IT is fantastic news that Tony Mowbray has agreed to stay on at Rovers, writes Simon Garner.

He has hopefully heard what he wanted to hear from the owners and it means we can start to look forward to the new season knowing there will be some consistency at the club.

We know that some of the players will almost certainly leave but to have the manager staying provides a starting point to build from.

What it also does is give the fans a reason to be optimistic.

Mowbray is the right man for the club and he had a good record in his time in charge last season and I think having a full pre-season to get his ideas across to the players will be hugely beneficial.

Then, fingers crossed, Rovers can get off to a good start because they will need one.

A few wins early in the season will build confidence and help bring some fans back who perhaps haven’t watched as regularly in the past few years.

You can see there is a bit more optimism around the supporters now that Mowbray has committed himself to the club and hopefully that can grow as the summer goes on and the squad starts to take shape.

I would also like him to see bring a few of the youngsters through.

There are a lot of talented players in the Under-23 and Under-18 teams at Rovers and there is an opportunity now to bring some of them into the first team picture.

We have seen with Connor Mahoney and Ryan Nyambe that players are capable of making the step up and that provides a guide to other youngsters who can see the pathway to the starting XI.

I think Mowbray will look to some of the younger players as he is a manager with a proven record for doing that.

I am sure he will want to bring in a few experienced signings who know the division but he won’t have a massive budget and some of the answers could already be at the club.

Bringing a few kids into the squad will also be something that the fans will enjoy seeing.

They want to be part of the club and supporters always like seeing Academy graduates playing in the first team at Ewood Park.

Hopefully it can all lead to a successful season in League One next year.
