WOLVES boss Paul Lambert has dismissed suggestions that a deal for Blackburn Rovers utility man Ben Marshall is close.

Reports claimed Rovers and Wolves had agreed a £1.85million fee for Marshall whose contract at Ewood Park expires in the summer.

Lambert is a known admirer of Marshall, who he worked with during his spell in charge at Rovers last season, but Wolves aren’t thought to be keen on paying over the odds for a player who can leave for a free in six months.

Marshall won’t feature for Rovers in tomorrow’s FA Cup tie with Blackpool, having also been left out of the matchday squad for last weekend’s draw with Birmingham City, as speculation over his future continues.

But while the clubs are understood to have held talks over Marshall, Lambert revealed today that reports a fee had been agreed were wide of the mark.

It means any potential deal for Marshall, who has turned down a new contract at Rovers, could well drag on close to Tuesday's 11pm transfer deadline.

“As far as I’m concerned there’s nothing really going on at the minute with that,” he told BBC West Midlands Sport.

“I know there’s reports out there, but from what I’m led to believe, there’s nothing going to happen right now.”
