MARK Ashworth continued his summer of scintillating form as he took home the East Lancashire Trophy last weekend.
The competition combines the Wilpshire Trophy and Pleasington Antlers, played on successive days, to determined the winner.
And although Ashworth didn't win either event the Clitheroe ace, who has already won the Lancashire Championships and the Harold Ryden Trophy this year, saw his consistency enough to claim top spot.
Ashworth finished second to Anthony Harwood in Saturday's Wilpshire Trophy after carding rounds of 73 and 70 before he finished in a tie for third at Pleasington 24 hours later with rounds of 71 and 75. Both events count towards the Northern Order of Merit title.
It was home favourite Calum Metcalfe who claimed victory at Pleasington to achieve his first victory in the Northern Order of Merit.
But the one handicapper nearly let the chance slip through his fingers when he double bogeyed the final hole.
But his one-under-par 70, tagged to his opening 74, was still the best round of the day as he denied former host club player Jack Brooks, from Didsbury, by a shot.
Warrington's Paul McFerran finished third on countback from Ashworth.
Harwood exacted a measure of revenge on Ashworth for his Harold Ryden semi-final defeat when he took home the Wilpshire Trophy on Saturday.
The Blackburn ace, who lost in the Harold Ryden final in 2015, was beaten 6&4 in that encounter last month.
But on Saturday he edged home a keenly fought contest.
Harwood, Ashworth and Lancashire county star Joe Brice each posted three-over-par totals of 143 but Harwood got the verdict thanks to a lower second round score of 70 which contained three birdies.
Formby's England player Paul Kinnear, who was defending his title, finished fourth, four off the pace
The Northern Order of Merit continued with the Bromborough Bowl in the week when Tom Dolan regained top spot after finishing second to Enville's Richard Shaw.
The Heswall plus one player, who has already won twice this season, at Hesketh and Eaton, leapfrogged title-holder and Cheshire team-mate Sam Prince, from Northenden, who was four strokes behind him in third place.
Shaw, meanwhile, opened with 71 then followed up with a fine 67 highlighted by an eagle at the seventh hole.
Harwood is up to eighth in the overall standings with 230 points, 30 more than Ashworth who is in a tie for 11th.
