YOUNG midfielder Robbie Leitch has become the second development squad player to sign for Burnley today.

The 18-year-old former Motherwell man has signed a two-year deal at Turf Moor, with the club having the option of a further year.

He follows in the footsteps of former Bolton Wanderers forward Jamie Thomas, 19, who is also linking up with Michael Jolley's development squad at Burnley.

Leitch scored for Well as they won their first ever Scottish Youth Cup title at Hampden Park in April, beating Hearts 5-2, and he admitted he jumped at the chance to join the Clarets.

I’m delighted to sign here because it’s a club that is really going places and the fact they’re back in the Premier League is great," said Leitch, the son of former Swindon Town midfielder Scott Leitch.

"It was an easy decision to make because I think Burnley are that big of a club and I can’t wait to get started now.

"Hopefully I can play regularly for the U21s this season, and keep progressing to try and challenge for a spot in the first-team as quick as I can.

"I’ve got a bit of history in English football as my dad played for Swindon a few years back and hopefully I can do as good as him."

Born in Swindon Leitch represented North Lanarkshire earlier this year in the International Children's Games, something his dad also achieved.

"We went to Canada and it was great to get away and experience my first tournament abroad.

"To win it as well was obviously brilliant so that was a good learning curve at such a young age which can hopefully help me in the future."
