NEW Blackburn Rovers boss Owen Coyle is hoping to work some more magic in the loan market.

Coyle plans to utilise his Premier League contacts to attract some top young talent to Ewood Park.

It is an avenue he went down during his stint in charge at Rovers’ rivals Bolton Wanderers.

Coyle signed Jack Wilshere and Daniel Sturridge on loan from Arsenal and Chelsea respectively.

The England Euro 2016 duo thrived at Wanderers before returning to their parent clubs.

Coyle also picked up £10m Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe from Arsenal while he was Bolton manager.

And, with the threadbare Rovers ranks in desperate need of bolstering, the 49-year-old has confirmed he will look to make loan additions.

Former Wigan Athletic manager Coyle said: “I’ve been very fortunate to have been able to bring some fantastic players to clubs that I’ve had.

“You think of the (Jack) Wilsheres and the (Daniel) Sturridges, boys that are going to the Euros.

“I watched England’s friendly versus Portugal and they had Gary Cahill playing as well, who was another player I had at Bolton.

“It’s great when you see these players you’ve worked with doing so well.

“When I think back on some of the terrific young players we’ve had on loan at different times, players like Afobe, who have gone on to have brilliant careers.

“Even my last signing at Wigan, and if the players we bring in go on to do half as well as that kid has done, then we’ll be delighted.

“It was Marc Albrighton, on a month’s loan, and I think it was for about a sixth of his salary.

“I watched him win the Premier League with Leicester City this season and it was brilliant.

“So that’s an important avenue we might utilise with some elite clubs.”

Coyle was installed into the Ewood Park hotseat on Thursday after being first approached by the club five days earlier.

He has swiftly set about attempting to strengthen a squad containing just 16 senior players who are contracted to the club beyond June 30.

That figure includes two goalkeepers, Jason Steele and David Raya, two young wingers, Connor Mahoney and John O’Sullivan, who have nine first-team appearances between them, and zero strikers.

Coyle is keen to tie down left-back Tommy Spurr, one of eight players out of contract, to a new deal.

But he knows he is going to have to make a raft of new signings if Rovers are to improve upon their 15th-placed finish in 2015-16.

Coyle said: “We recognise good players and the key is trying to get them to this football club, to add to the existing quality we have.

“And if we do that we know we’re moving forward and we’re going to be in a very good place.”
