FOLLOWING the success of the club’s first goalkeeping open day for budding Jason Steeles, Blackburn Rovers will hold another at the end of this month.

On Friday, April 29 keepers currently in the under-12, under 13 and under-14 age groups are invited to attend the club’s senior training centre at Brockhall from 6-7pm.

The open days are designed to find locally-based shot-stoppers who can be integrated into Rovers’ Academy system, or alternatively the club’s goalkeeping development centre, which has been created to provide goalkeeping activities in the area to benefit the wider community.

If you are interested then you can email assistant head of recruitment Frank Sharps at fsharps@rovers.co.uk for an induction pack. All packs must be completed by Sunday, April 24.

Rovers’ first goalkeeping open day took place earlier this year with more than 50 youngsters aged from 8-11 being putting through their paces at Brockhall.

Academy goalkeeping coach Ben Benson said: “It is the first time we’ve ever done anything like this before but we’ve now got a plan in place for the next few years as to how we want to develop the goalkeeping side of things, and creating a development centre and having open evenings like this are going to be fundamental to that process.

“The idea stemmed from bridging the gap between the Academy and grassroots. We’ll be creating a goalkeeping development centre, a shadow squad to what goes on at the Academy.

“The standard was excellent, some of the players will now be invited to our goalkeeper development centre as a result, whilst others will be watched further by our recruitment department.”
