BURNLEY are looking to sign free agent Lloyd Dyer on a short-term deal.

The wide man is without a club having had his Watford contract ended by mutual consent earlier this month.

The 33-year-old has not played a senior game this season, following the Hornets’ promotion to the Premier League, and ended the second half of 2014/15 on loan at Birmingham City.

Burnley are not the only club to have expressed an interest in the experienced former Leicester City winger, but appear to be favourites for his signature.

Meanwhile, Michael Keane has slammed the “shocking behaviour” of Reading in response to the penalty awarded against Andre Gray, that the striker ultimately missed in Saturday’s goalless draw at the Madejski Stadium.

Gray fired two six-yard chances off target before seeing his spot kick saved by the Reading keeper.

But it was the reaction from the Royals that Keane and co found the most disappointing, with the home players surrounding the referee and Hal Robson-Kanu petulantly stamping on the penalty spot and kicking the ball away to delay the taking of it.

Robson-Kanu was booked for the incident, but Keane feels it was not sufficient punishment.

“I thought it was ridiculous. The guy stamping on the penalty spot as well, I think it was Robson-Kanu. I think that should be a red card to be honest,” said Keane.

“It was unbelievable, shocking behaviour, and the way they got around him when he (Gray) missed as well.

“It’s one of those things.

“There were a few tempers running high in the game. It was a tough one to deal with for the referee.

“But the lads showed good character. It could have boiled over the edge with a few tackles and the incident with Andre. The lads did well to keep their heads and grind out a point in the end.”

With Hull City winning at Blackburn Rovers to go back to the top, three points clear of the Clarets, and defeat for Derby County at home to MK Dons pushing them down to sixth, there was an extra sense of frustration that Burnley could not make the most of their chances to keep closer tabs on the top two.

But Keane said: “We came here and did everything that we spoke about. I thought we were quite solid at the back and defended well on a terrible pitch to be honest.

“It was difficult to play on, but we still created some great chances.

“Unfortunately it wasn’t Andre’s day but he’s been brilliant for us and I’m sure he’ll get loads more goals as well.

“Derby lost and Hull won. It’s disappointing because it would have kept us up there right at the top but we’re still in and around it. There’s a long way to go yet.”
