TONY Parkes has given his backing to the appointment of Paul Lambert as Blackburn Rovers’ new boss.
Parkes served as a player, coach, assistant manager, caretaker manager and manager across 34 unbroken years of service at Ewood Park.

And asked for his opinion of Lambert, who won back-to-back promotions to the Premier League with Norwich City, the Rovers great said: “I don’t know a lot about him but he has the credentials.
“If you are a team in the Premier League and you go down to the Championship, you want a manager who knows this division.
“Paul took Norwich to the Premier League and he has got two good men with him in Rob Kelly and Alan Irvine who really know all about Blackburn so I think it’s a good appointment.”
Parkes, who worked with Lambert’s assistant manager Irvine and first-team coach Kelly in their first spells at Rovers, was speaking at Monday’s MBNA Northwest Football Awards, where he received the Lifetime Contribution to Northwest Football prize.
