MIDFIELDER Chris Taylor admits Blackburn Rovers must turn draws into wins if they are to haul themselves up the Championship table.

Last weekend’s 1-1 home draw with Brentford means Rovers have now shared the spoils in eight of their 16 league matches so far this season.

Only local rivals Bolton Wanderers and Preston North End, who the Ewood Park outfit travel to next Saturday, have drawn as many times.

Rovers should make the short trip to Deepdale with a new manager in place after Gary Bowyer was sacked.

And Taylor, speaking immediately after the Brentford draw, which came on the back of a stalemate at Birmingham City and a win at Leeds United, said: “There was a sense of disappointment in the dressing room because it felt like it was a good chance to get three points against a good team. It’s a point but we were looking for three.

“You would take five points out of nine most times but we want to kick on and we want to kick up the league – and draws aren’t going to move you much, even if they’re not going to move you down.

“We do need to get more wins on the board.”

Rovers have now drawn 16 of the 38 league matches they have played in 2015.

Only second-placed Brighton & Hove Albion (18) and second-from-bottom Charlton Athletic (17) have drawn more in the calendar year.

The Brentford match also marked Taylor’s fifth appearance in 18 days after recovering from a serious groin injury that had sidelined him since March.

“I think the first two games in the week I got through quite well and I had a bit of a zip about me,” said the 28-year-old, who was replaced midway through the second half.

“But today I just didn’t get going which, from a personal point of view, was a little bit disappointing.

“But sometimes you’ve got to look at the bigger picture and three games in a short space of time, after being out for seven months, is quite a big thing.

“I’m hoping these games will stand me in good stead and I can kick on and have a good season.”
