ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman admits he will be breaking a few hearts as he compiles his retained list for next season.

Coleman is in the process of negotiating new contracts with players he intends on keeping for the start of the League Two 2007/08 campaign.

Only four members of his squad, Paul Mullin, Rommy Boco, Shaun Whalley and Tony Grant, have deals for next season, while a clutch of players have one-year options.

But the Accrington manager may have to show some players the door this summer - and he insists that will be difficult on a personal level.

"If you ask any manager in the country, this is the week that they don't like the most," said Coleman.

"That's because you are letting some players go, and you are trying to convince those players you want, to stay.

"It's difficult because you are letting them out of their job. I'm very close to the players and that makes it doubly difficult.

"But you can't let sentiment get in the way.

"I'm going to speak to them all individually. I want to try and get it sorted out this week. You don't want to be going away with things hanging over your head."
