EAST Lancashire Modern Pentathlete Luke Tasker will look to secure a spot in the Junior European Championships final when he gets his qualification bid underway in Bulgaria today.

First on Tasker’s agenda is making sure he secures a spot in the final, to be held on Saturday, before he can set individual goals and a possible challenge at the podium.

And the youngster, from Clitheroe, will head into the event full of confidence after an impressive showing in the men’s relay event held on Tuesday.

Alongside Thomas Lees the GB pair came home in fourth place, just missing out on a medal by 35 points.

The British duo were fourth after the fencing round and enjoyed a hugely successful swim, where they were the fastest overall, and despite being second in the ride section it was enough to lift them onto the podium.

Russians Oleg Naumov and Viacheslaw Bardyshev claimed the gold in Sofia.

Meanwhile, Samantha Murray has been named in the British squad for the World Championships in Germany next month.

The Clitheroe star is the defending champion and will be looking to retain her crown when the championships get underway in Berlin on June 28.

The 25-year-old, an Olympic silver medalist at London 2012, is joined by Kate French, Freyja Prentice and Francesca Summers in the women’s team.

Murray, who won the individual title in Warsaw 12 months ago, will head into the championships in good form having claimed a victory in the opening world cup round of the season in America.

Thomas Toolis, James Cooke, Joseph Choong and Joseph Evans have been selected for the British men’s team.

The World Championships run from June 28 until July 6.
