IT was a day to remember for Wellfield Primary School after completing a cup double at the home of Burnley Football Club.

The boys won the Hartley Cup and the girls lifted the School Sports Partnership Cup to make sure they won’t forget their trip to Turf Moor in a hurry.

And for Kian Morris it will be a day he will talk about for a long time, scoring a hat-trick as Wellfield boys beat Worsthorne 5-0 in the Hartley Cup.

Kian is already on the books at Burnley and no doubt his goal-scoring feats will have impressed those who were watching. James Whitworth, who is part of Blackburn Rovers Academy, also scored while Shay Hughes-Stacey completed the scoring. In total, free-scoring Wellfield scored 25 goals in five games, and conceded just one.

And the girls made sure they had plenty to cheer about, although their SSP Cup was always in the balance as they beat Brunshaw 2-1 thanks to two goals from Cara McCormick.

Both teams qualified for the final having topped their respective groups.

“We are delighted for both teams,” said boys coach Simon Grime. “In fairness they have worked hard for it and attend training sessions before school each week.”
