BURNLEY followed up their Ron Singleton Colne Trophy succcess with another impressive victory as the Lancashire League season got under way.

Having beaten league champions Lowerhouse in the annual season opener by eight wickets to lift the Trophy, there were in equally as commanding form to beat Bacup.at Turf Moor.

Batting first, Bacup were dismissed for just 99 runs with professional Chris Holt doing the damage, taking four wickets for 28 runs of his 10 overs.

Opener Adam Highly top scored for Bacup with an unbeaten 47 but he had little support elsewhere as only Henry Butcher (20) managed to get in to double figures.

In reply, Burnley rattled off their target in less than 16 overs - despite the early lost of Vishal Tripathi for four after he was bowled by professional Haseeb Azam.

But Holt (36no) and an unbeaten 58 from David Brown sealed a convincing Burnley win.

In contrast, Nelson beat Church by just one wicket at Blackburn Road with professional Keshav Maharaj the star of the show.

The South African ripped the the Church batting line-up as he took six wickets for 47 runs as the home side were bowled out for 144 runs in the 43rd over. Paid man Usman Tariq top scored for Church with 35 before he became one of Maharaj’s six victims.

But Nelson made hard work of their run chase and got over the line thanks mainly to an unbeaten 35 from Khurram Nazir.

The Bradleys opened the batting but with contrasting fortunes as Lewis went for a duck while Russell constructed a vital knock of 31.

Richard Meade also made a telling contribution with 28 before Nazir and Sam Halstead (3no) got them over the line.

Accrington beat Colne by 32 runs to get their campaign up and running thanks largely to an unbeaten 65 from Ockert Erasmus who also took two wickets.

Batting first, Accrington reached 193 for eight with Keiron Grimshaw (39) and Jonathan Hayhurst (27 not out) supporting the South African paid man.

In reply, Colne lost Tom Bradshaw and Jamal cheaply although opener Joel Duerden hit 20 before he stumped by Wilson off Erasmus.

Procter added 22 before he too went to Erasmus, caught by Andrew Greenwood.

Champions Lowerhouse beat East Lancashire by two wickets with captain Charlie Cottam (43) and Fergus Bailey (34no) the mainstays of the innings. East Lancs were bowled out for 137 with House scoring 142 for eight in reply.

Enfield beat Haslingden, Todmorden won at Rawtenstall while Rishton were bowled out for just 66 as they lost at Ramsbottom.
