PLANS for a community court in the East End of Glasgow were well underway when ministers decided not to go ahead.

Long-suffering residents in areas blighted by persistent low level crime were promised swift, visible justice, delivered on their doorstep.

Yesterday, many Glasgow MSPs made their feelings known to the government, and last night the parliament delivered its verdict.

There will always be financial considerations for any initiative, especially in the current climate, but dealing with offenders must be a priority for any government.

If this proposal has been ditched on the grounds of costs alone, ministers must listen and reconsider this decision. Good luck to every runner

THOUSANDS of runners will pound the streets of Glasgow again on Sunday for the Women's 10k.

Months of training, dieting and early morning runs will come to an end when they cross the finishing line.

Many charities benefit from the determination of the women and the generosity of their sponsors.

Among the runners are many women who have overcome their own personal battles to get fit for the challenge.

We wish the thousands of women taking part the very best of luck and hope many personal bests are broken.
