THE number one priority is for the club to stay up.

A few weeks ago we were talking about the R-word, as in relegation, but now it's really upon us. We're in the mix and it's time for the players to stand up and be counted.

We've got a lot of home games coming up, but that brings its own pressure. When you go two games without a win it becomes difficult, but then three, four, five, all the way to 18 - it's absolutely desperate.

There are games coming thick and fast, but at the end of the day, we're the bottom form team and, on Saturday, someone said we were sinking like a stone'.

We're not on the fringes of things, we're right in the middle of all the trouble.

I was in the last side that came up five or six years ago and it takes some doing to get out of that division. If we went down it would be a disaster.

And Steve is there to be shot at as the manager. The previous manager, Stan (Ternent), I can't remember him going 18 games without a win.

The players have got off quite lightly so far, but to have scored only seven goals in 17 games, from a fans point of view, is far too long.

The team hasn't been booed off. When I was a player I was booed off after bad performances, but I think the fans have been very fair.

The players have got to take some blame because they're experienced, but the buck stops with the manager Steve has been saying that there are no cliques in the squad and they are all friends and get on with each other.

But I look back to Stan's methods when he was in charge. We were having practice matches and everybody's place was up for grabs, we weren't there to be best of friends.

We've just become too easy to beat and we're not in the winning habit.

But the time for talking is over. We need to get points and we need them quickly.
