GARETH Southgate hopes a trio of Burnley players will entice a large crowd to Turf Moor for the England under 21 team’s friendly against Portugal next week.

Southgate brings his under 21 squad to Burnley for a 7.45pm kick-off on November 13 as they prepare for next summer’s European Championships, with Danny Ings, Nathaniel Chalobah and Michael Keane all expected to be involved on the ground at which they play their club football.

“I’m looking forward to seeing us play at Turf Moor,” said Southgate.

“I’ve been on quite a few scouting trips to Burnley over the last year or so, with Danny Ings being involved with us and now with Nat Chalobah and Michael Keane here on loan.

“I always think there’s a fantastic atmosphere and it’s a passionate town who really support their club well.

“I know there’s massive support for England in the town as well.

“I know of the pride that the whole town took when we first picked Danny for England and when he made his debut, so we’re looking forward to it.

“It’s a very warm and friendly club whenever I go and I’m sure we’ll get a good attendance for what will be a really attractive game.”

Portugal won all 10 of their matches in qualifying, including a victory over Holland in the play-offs.

“The game against Portugal will be a really good test for us,” he said. “I think they will be one of the best teams in the finals next summer, so it will be a really good benchmark.

“We want matches that are really going to challenge us because we’ve got to look to improve between now and next June, rather than just tread water and wait for next summer.”

Tickets for the game are currently on sale at Turf Moor, with all stands open for the match.

Seats cost £10 for adults and £5 for concessions, although Burnley season ticket holders can buy tickets for half price.
