BLESSED Trinity’s Year Nine football team left it late to reach the third round of the English Schools FA competition after overcoming Archbishop Temple School from Preston 3-2.

Archbishop Temple reached the last 16 in the ESFA last season and so Blessed Trinity were up against it.

However. the Burnley school took the lead through Charlie Smith’s header after he got on the end of Harvey Macadam’s cross.

But Archbishop Temple were on level terms at the break after a neat finish made it 1-1 at half-time.

The Preston school must have thought they were on the march again when they took the lead with just eight minutes to go.

However,Blessed Trinity had no intention to roll over.

With just four minutes to go, they were awarded a penalty after a handball in the area and Macadam nervelessly tucked it away to make it 2-2 with full time fast approaching.

Blessed Trinity then piled on the pressure as they hunted the winning goal and they got it in the last minute when Macadam crossed for Smith to bundle the ball home and send Blessed Trinity into the third round of the English Cup.

Man of the match Kasom Shah who was outstanding at the back.
