STRIKER DJ Campbell has become the second player, after midfielder Dickson Etuhu, to leave Blackburn Rovers today by mutual agreement.

The Ewood Park outfit, like they have done with Etuhu, have come to a financial settlement with Campbell.

The 32-year-old had one year remaining on the two-year contract he signed with Rovers in July 2013.

Campbell failed to score in his nine appearances for the club.

Rovers last month came to an agreement to terminate striker David Goodwillie's contract.

Lets hope the lairy ones are still on here once you have folded.

If I was Campbell I don't think I would be spending the money just yet. I can't see any other club risking the signing of a player under suspicion of match fixing and you can bet the Rovers will be coming after him if he gets convicted (assuming that this wasn't written into the settlement - it might be a cheaper pay off if it was).

Can any of my fellow Rovers fans explain how the pay-offs of Goodwillie, Etuhu and Campbell will affect FFP exactly? I'm assuming that paying them off this early into pre-season must be of more benefit to the club, else they would have hung on to see if there was any interest later on in the month, right?

Also, any news on the new strip yet? It'll be interesting to see which player's name adorns the back of the most shirts this year. I reckon Rudy will give Jordan a run for his money, possibly with the number '9' underneath?

If you take a look on the FL website in reference to embargos the rules state " the embargo will remain in place until the club is able to lodge financial information that demonstrates that it meets financial fairplay regulations ( either for the previous reporting period or a future reporting period), the last one is the FL get out of jail card. As long as you can show your going to meet it the embargo will be removed.

The FL site and www.financialfairpla
y.co.uk seem to be the best ones ive found. I think the contradictions come from the fact that there is not a very clear definition of what can be taken into account, for instance youth development is not taken into account, so all academy costs can be removed from losses, but who pays for the training ground pitches ect , when the academy and first team use them. The concept has some merit but seems to be poorly thought out. Only time will tell how if it has any impact.

Oh dear, what a terrible shame for the Rovers, having to pay their players to LEAVE! You really couldn't make this nonsense up.

David Goodwillie had 1 year remaining on a £624,000 a year contract.
DJ Campbell had 1 year remaining on a £1.56m a year contract.
Dickson Etuhu had 2 years remaining on a £1.82m a year contract.

Blackburn Rovers have therefore just paid out a minimum £3million in contract pay-off's! Add to this the £8million deficit from the reduction in parachute payments and the £4million still owed to Huddersfield Town for Jordan Rhodes and it's quite clear that this £15million shortfall that now sits ON TOP OF a £20million+ wage bill is going to send you circus clowns in to a tailspin when FFP comes to town.

How many people have you had to pay to leave? Sam Allardyce, Steve Kean, Shebby Singh, Big Sam again after he sued you, Henning Berg after he sued you, Michael Appleton, Colin Hendry, and countless other coaches and support staff, David Goodwillie, DJ Campbell, Dickson Etuhu.....

I would estimate that in paying players and staff to leave Venky's have added a further £10m - £15m onto the Blackburn Rovers debt.

You are going to take one hell of a walloping off FFP in December that much is certain.

What a shambles.

What a fantastic day.

Blackburn Rovers finally and begrudgingly acknowledge the existence of Financial Fair Play. Panic begins to spread as Venky's are made aware of the sanctions coming into play in December. Phone calls are made, harsh words are exchanged and the result is that several players have to be paid off at a cost of millions to reduce the obscenity of a wage bill. The scent of panic wafting up the M65 from the Blackburn area is truly foul, and yet hilarious in equal measure.

Those cocky no-dad necks are now being fully wound in as the reality of the situation finally takes hold... FFP is here, Venky's are filling their pants, and Blackburn Rovers are being forced to clear the decks cleared of all high earners only to replace them with League One rejects on a reported £10k a week!

The farce continues......

In other news the Clarets are looking to add a further gem to their Premier League ranks in the form of Derby's 2-time player of the season, 16-goal midfielder, Craig Bryson, for less than a THIRD of what Blackburn Rovers have today paid to get rid of their own players! LOL

Wow. For a Burnley fan you appear to have an extensive awareness of Blackburn Rovers players' salaries and contractual details. How exactly are you aware of how much Dickson Etuhu's contract was worth? Or are you just guessing?

You don't know how much we owe to Huddersfield for Jordan Rhodes. Obviously him still being a Blackburn Rovers player cuts deep after two years of scaremongering and telling us that we would have to sell him to balance the books.

The wage bill has been drastically reduced over the last 12 months, in which time Goodwillie, Etuhu, Campbell, Dann, Givet, Pedersen and others have gone, whilst the team has improved.

What is this 'walloping' off FFP that you refer to? With your extensive knowledge you would be aware that the worst punishment that could be enforced on Rovers in January would be a transfer embargo. That is assuming that the rules are enforced properly and are not amended. Given the significant reductions in spending over the last 12 months I think Rovers have done enough to convince the clowns at the League that they are trying hard to meet the requirements.

I would stick to worrying about how on earth Burnley are going to make a go of it next season when they are signing the likes of Marvin Sordell and can't afford a West Brom reserve.

It surely has to be considered a good thing that rather than cutting their losses and running away from the club or allowing the financial situation to spiral out of control a la Leeds and Birmingham, that the owners are prepared to rectify their mistakes by paying off the likes of Etuhu.

Whilst it may take several million pounds and mean that we are restricted to free signings this summer, the club will be a better place without the clowns that Kean and Appleton signed.

Don't know if anyone else has replied but here is my pennyworth.

From what I understand the financial year for FFP runs from the 1st July to the 30th June each year, that's why I have been saying for months that they need to clear unwanted players and their associated costs out of the club but the 30th of June 2014.

If they managed to do so with Etuhu and DJ then that cost is included in the 2013 - 14 season for the purpose of FFP.

If not the cost will be incurred in the 2014 - 15 season, the fact they have gone today suggests that the offers were accepted on time, Rovers are therefore taking the financial hit for the 2013 - 14 season, starting afresh for the 2014 - 15 season, albeit with Best still on their books (so far).

If that is the case, and if the figures I have been "given" are correct, Rovers, since GB took over full time have removed somewhere in the region of £17 million off the books in one season, amazingly while strengthening the team.

It remains to be seen how this will affect FFP, as both GB and Shaw have openly said we will still struggle to meet the requirements for next season, but we are in a much stronger position now both financially and player wise than we were 12 months ago.

Because the bulk of the debt is owed to Venky's themselves. The only debt Rovers actually carry is in the form of an agreed overdraft, circa £11 million with an Indian bank.

Venky's in the form of Blackburn Rovers owe money to Venky's, it's as simple as that. Venky's have also made it very clear that the loan is interest free and there is no specified date for repayment.

And past debt does not affect FFP.

FFP operates on a season to season basis.

This is excellent news as having these two lurking around the club not playing can only be negative. For all the dingles crowing about how much it has cost to get shut and how it will affect FFP the payoffs will result as a loss on the balance sheet for one trading period only rather than dragging on in salaries over a number of trading periods so the implications of FFP hit for one season only. What is fortunate is that we have a playing staff cleansed of dead wood that will attract the crowds and increase revenue through the turnstiles. So today's actions are about limiting the effects of FFP. So, in the post Kean/Singh era we have put the team on a firm footing and now the finances, yes it will be difficult but only short term. At least one club in East Lancs is acting in a professional manner rather than getting to the top flight and failing to invest in the squad, just looking forward to inevitable pastings week on week and certain relegation but remember those parachute payments boys.

It's now clear that Rovers have a 'plan' or 'campaign' to minimise the effects of FFP.

Ignore the Burnley Troll, he knows nothing and lives in his own fantasy world.

Venkys continue to fund Rovers by terminating these expensive contracts, and, in a way recognising their earlie mistakes. That in itself is a major commitment. By doing so, it indicates to me that Rovers can demonstrate
that a system is in place to comply with FFP. Venkys, while not popular, have not deserted the club but indeed still finance it. Credit for that.

FFP is an ill-conceived ideology and is typical of an organisation that paid £1billion to pay for a National Stadium (wow), and suggests a League3 will help the national team. The FA is so out of touch with the people, it's supporters, that it held it's latest AGM in Portugal, for the 2nd year running. (Must be no conference venues in the UK then).

What I mean is the FA know FA. FFP will be decided in court.

You don't get it do you.

If FFP was unavoidable we wouldn't be releasing players would we.

If we were going to be unable to sign anyone for an extended period we wouldn't release anyone.

As for a "walloping" I fear you may be seeing (if you ever went) more of those this season than us. Marvin Sordell scored even less than Chris Brown. Chelsea must be bricking it!

LOL
A £750,000 signing for a "Premiership" club, wow big spenders, that's really sending out the right signals to the other clubs, "we are here to stay, well perhaps we might be?" you won't make thirty points this season.

We are also bringing a squad together to cope with any embargo which in no doubt we will contest no fine no points deduction just players not being brought in or sold but who cares we will be able to nourish a good young and experienced side together for the foreseeable future . Actually Rovers have done very well in the last year in trying to recover from the disastrous situation they were put in. BUT they still have a huge debt and the Venky’s are showing no signs of clearing it and the interest will mount up.
How much do Venky's owe? And to whom do they owe the money?

Oh dear. Somebody is upset at the way things are going at Ewood these days.

Two years of telling us we would have to sell Rhodes at a knock down price to cover losses - still hasn't happened.

Two years of impending financial disaster and administration - still hasn't happened.

Venkys walking away and leaving us bankrupt - still hasn't happened.

League One - still hasn't happened.

What we are seeing is a young, hungry side rising from the rubble of the last 3 years, and if the second half of last season is anything to go by, quite a force in the Championship.

Unlike the Ings situation at Burnley, Rhodes is under contract at Rovers for 3 more years and by all accounts is very happy at the club. Burnley's star man is on his way, either this summer or in January, having Premier League status won't help Burnley on that front. Signing Marvin Sordell (Bolton reject) and a few other cheapies with the £120 million windfall, wow.

Paying off all the muck and rubbish , eroding the parachute payment, and you are all on here at your keyboards nursing semi’s at everything GB does. You will NEVER get back into the premier league…ever. As soon as Rhodes figures this out, and looks at the journeymen, the freebies, the “something to proves” and the rest of the carpet baggers walk into preseason training he will be slapping a transfer request on GB’s table, he will probably go on strike to force a move. Talk about deluded, you must have all been dropped on your heads at birth “ooooh look, we have signed a 35 year nobody from Gravesend who has been released from his last 12 clubs, but Gary said he has hunger and something to prove, so by default he is world class and we should not grumble or moan as we still have players coming in, not the likes of Shearer, or Flowers or Sutton, but bodies….in GB we trust"...like a bunch of clapping seals
You are the voice of a lone dog. A lone dog that speaks out of it's often licked backside. You spout crap from either orifice. You are the voice of a Dingle Dog : the mongrel offspring with no defined pedigree. Congratulations on your new star signing from Blackpool by the way. Now go lick your balls.
