BLACKBURN and Darwen Police Amateur Boxing Club enjoyed fresh success when they staged a special fund-raising show at Audley Sport and Community Centre.

And up-and-coming prospect Adil Ifthikhar, boxing on the home show for the first time against Oldham’s Afzal Hussain from Oldham ABC, saw him deliver another powerful performance.

It was an all-action contest from the first bell as his opponent began strongly with some strong backhand combinations and the Blackburn lad had to dig deep early on.

The second round, though, saw 17-year-old Ifthikhar using his straight lead to the head and rear hand to the body as Hussain finally went on the retreat.

In the final round, Ifthikhar kept up the pressure, eventually outclassing his opponent and landing the fight by a unanimous points decision.

The oldest member of the team Amar Ayad, 18, also got the nod from the judges, beating Junaid Ahmed from North Side ABC.

While Ayad’s rival attacked in bursts, he had prepared well for his opponent, beating him to the punch from several different angles to out box him.

Kieran Hunter, 15, also impressed and he was only just denied, the points decision going in the favour of his opponent Pat Brown from Sale West ABC.

It had certainly proved an even bout, and Hunter put in a brave performance only just to be denied.

Adeeb Zulfiqar is also a young talent beginning to impress and the 14-year-old made it successive wins, overcoming Matt Purcell from Moss Side Fire Station ABC.

Adeeb used his clever footwork skills very well to stay out of distance in the ring and out wit his opponent.

“It was a brilliant display from the lads, and I was really happy with all of them,” said Head coach and club founder Yaqoob Hussain MBE.

“We had eleven good quality bouts and there was a lot of talent on show.”

Mr Hussain added that he would like to thank Mamas Pizzas, Accrington Road, Blackburn, who have agreed to sponsor the club's track suits.

One of the owners, Ansar Khan, made the presentation at the club.

Mr Hussain said he was very grateful to Blackburn with Darwen Council for allowing them use of Audley Sports Centre for the boxing show.
