Burnley Gymnastics Club recently sent a team of 33 youngsters to take part in the Milano Invitational Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Competition in Preston.

The girls performed well on both days with each gymnast picking up a medal in the various age groups and levels.

Stars of the first day were Shannon Cairns and Olivia Stockdale who were competing in their first four piece competition.

Shannon won gold on bars, beam and vault along with a silver medal on the floor to sucure overall gold.

Olivia delivered a solid performance, winning gold on bars, silver on floor and beam and taking bronze on vault. She also took the overall gold medal for her age group.

Rhianna Doogan then added to the great marker set by claiming gold on the bars and vault and despite a stumble on the beam dismount, still managed to take fourth Place overall at the Pre-Novice level.

On day two, gymnasts took part in the key steps competition and again won a clutch of medals for the Burnley club – a result that underlines how far the club has come in the last two years since moving into their new home at the BEST Centre.

  •  Medallists were: Gold: Imogen Ferguson, Emily Mercer, Taylor De Vries, Ellysia Ainsworth Cookson, Olivia Chadwick, Halle Charlton, Emily Hall, Alisha Hyde, Antonia Wright, Silver: Ruby Cain, Katie Hockedy, Milly Regan, Mia Blythe, Isobel Brown, Jasmine Bullough Teal, Chloe Chapman, Eliza Cottam, Abbie Kendall, Ava Schofield, Abbie Allison, Leah Chapman, Jodie Dixon, Lauren Greenwood, Madson Hull, Sophie Butterworth, Lydia Guy, Matilda Kenyon, Claudia Lewis. Bronze: Maddie Haworth A host of distinction awards were also distributed by judges over the weekend A distinction is a special award given to those who had near on perfect scores for each apparatus.
