BURNLEY Bobcats swim squad got a real taste of Olympic glory when four of their teenage stars performed with great credit at the London 2012 Aquatics Centre.

The athletes were also granted the opportunity to race around Olympic Park, the first time both venues had opened for senior tournament action since the end of Olympic competition nearly two years ago.

Over 1,600 athletes were in action at the British Schools Modern Biathlon Championships, and the Bobcats were in splendid form, as three of the club's up and coming prospects claimed top ten finishes overall.

Harry Pilkington, 13, and Dean Moorhouse, 14, represented St Christopher's Church of England School, Accrington, while Elliot Norman and Hannah Procter, both 13, attend Ribblesdale High School and Clitheroe Royal Grammar School respectively.

The Bobcats swam a 100 metres freestyle race in the Olympic pool, before a testing 1,600 metres run around the spectacular setting of the Olympic Park.

Pilkington swam a fine 100 metres in a National qualifying time of 58.85, placing him in fourth position.

He then clocked 5 minutes 34.98, and an overall eighth spot from a 80-strong field in the under-14 event, an excellent achievement.

Moorhouse produced a splendid swim, firing 59.86 (6th place) and completing the 1,600 metres contest in 5.50.15 (44th place) and with an overall placing of 19th position.

Elliot Norman achieved his regional qualifying time in the swim, clocking 1.04.23, and sixth place. His run, meanwhile, saw him post 5.38.93 (21st place) and ninth spot overall.

Procter was also in terrific form, clocking 1.06.88 for the swim, and 5.47.12 in the run, placing her in 14th spot.

Overall, after the two events, Procter grabbed sixth position from a very competitive field of 99 entrants.

All four simmers train at St Peter's Centre, Burnley.
