Blackburn Centurions ASC were represented at the recent British Championships Swimming competition in Glasgow by a number of current and past members.

The current member who represented the club was Anna Hopkin who trains in the Sprint group for 4.5 hours per week qualified for the 50m butterfly race.

In the heat she swam a personal best time of 27.99 seconds which put her in 15th place in the semi finals.

In this race she finished with a slightly slower time but included her position in the rankings to 14th.

This was a great performance. The swimmer finishing fourth was less than one second faster than Hopkin.

Life members Josh Walsh came fifth in the men’s 200m Freestyle with a time of 1:49.37. He also entered the 100m Freestyle and finished with a time of 51.46 seconds.

Two other swimmers and former members of the club also swam at the championships, these being Rebecca Swales and Robert Hamer, who both now swim at Preston.

On the same weekend the Centurions had a group of swimmers at the Wirral Metro development meet Jodie Beck achieved her first regional qualifying time in the 100m backstroke with a personal best time of 1:14.98, more than two seconds inside the qualifying time.

She also obtained five more PBs Abigail Newsham, Lucy Robinson, Jack Royle and Jacob Klienfield-Fowell all swam and between them achieved eight personal bests.
