THORNTON-in-Craven are flying the local flag in the Mewies Solicitors Craven League’s Wynn Cup as Barrowford, Chatburn and Pendle Forest all exited at the first hurdle.

Thornton made the Sunday trip to Airedale and veteran opener Kev Pollard rolled back the years with a measured 55 for the locals, while Scott Howarth-Hynes made 35 and skipper David Scothern 14 as they were bowled out in the final over for 154.

Opening bowler Jack Laycock struck twice early on as Airedale replied, while Luke Scothern claimed 4-18 and David Scothern 2-9 as the hosts were shot out for 81 with Thornton celebrating a straightforward progression into round two.

Chatburn have made a fine start to life in Division Two but they faced their sternest test against Ingrow St John’s and only had 10 men and suffered a dreadful day with the bat.

They were left reeling on 57-8 before Andrew Booth top scored with 47 to get them up to 104 all out.

That was never likely to be enough as Ingrow eased to a six-wicket win despite two wickets for Jonny Lockley.

Barrowford were also beaten as Oakworth strolled to a 10-wicket win at Wide Lane. Junaid Khan top scored with 33 for the villagers as they were bowled out for 132 before Jack Hainsworth (86 not out) and Rob Hopinkson (46 not out) led the hosts to a handsome win.

Pendle Forest were shot out for 112 in their game with Embsay at Old Laund Booth before the visitors eased home by eight wickets.

Foulridge had a bye through the first round but they lost their 100 per cent record in Division One when they lost a low scoring thriller at Bingley Congregational on Saturday.

The game looked up for John Lambert’s men when they were bowled out for just 64 with only James Lickless (27) offering much in the way of a batting threat.

But Lambert tried his best to steal an improbable win as he claimed 6-28 before Bingley squeezed home by one wicket.

Amjal Choudry and Lockley were in the runs as Barrowford hammered Cowling at Bull Holme. Choudry made 96 not out and Lockley 92 not out in an unbroken stand on 189 for the third wicket as they piled up 231-2.

Then Waseem Furqan claimed 5-14 as Cowling were shot out for just 54.

Thornton lost at Haworth, while Chatburn recovered from 9-4 as Steve Kerr made 79 to lead them to a two-wicket win over Denholme.

And Pendle Forest were also winners as they thumped Skipton Church Institute at Sandlylands. They posted 148 all out before demolishing their hosts for just 29 with Rob Harris claiming 5-17 and Adnan Khalid 4-5.
