Snooker: Leaders Greenfield are given a real fright by battling West View

DIVISION One leaders Greenfield were lucky to escape with a draw in their encounter with relegation battlers West View in the Blackburn and Darwen Snooker League.
The home team got off to a flier with a great 75 break from Chris Lawson in the opener but it wasn't long before they found themselves 3-2 down thanks to a brilliant performance from Jim Amos to beat Craig Steele followed by good wins for Paul Upton and Michael Jackson.
Gaz Hampson had other ideas and dug deep to take the last pairs with Alan Heaton and then put his side 4-3 up with a comfortable win over Dan Marsden.
The final frame was a close one and it looked as though Dave Houghton, making his return after a long absence through injury, would snatch the win over John Avery to seal victory.
Unfortunately he went in off the brown and Avery made no mistake.
Park A beat Mill Hill 6-2, the highlight another superb break of 81 from Mark Jennings.
The result puts Park within nine points of Greenfield at the top but leaves Mill Hill rooted at the bottom.
Hoddlesden managed to hold on to second place with a 5-3 win over Blackburn Golf A.
Fox and Hounds, fresh from a superb win in the Ten Reds at weekend took on the inconsistent Park B.
It was nip and tuck all the way, neither side gaining more than a single frame advantage and the draw was probably a fair result.
The evenings final match saw Punch race into a 5-0 lead over visitors Stanhill before the Ossy men could trouble the marker.
It was left to veterans Ian Pickles and Alan Weaver to give the score some respectability by taking the last two frames.
Division 2 is turning into a thrilling race and it was Longshaw making the headlines again – the A team storming to a 7-1 victory at the Orchard to put themselves within two points of their B team at the top.
Longshaw B were relieved to take a 5-3 win over Feniscowles. After racing into a 3-0 lead the visitors' Andy Rourke seemed on the verge of victory against Frank Jex when he inexplicably missed the easiest of reds to gift the frame to Frank.
Frame seven was another thriller, Rob Walsh leaving Dylan Ince needing two snookers on the pink. The youngster kept a cool head and forced an in off from Walsh followed by the snooker he needed to pinch the frame 61-57.
Third placed VIP A won the derby match against their B team 5-3 to keep themselves within touching distance but the result effectively ends the hopes of the B team.
The B team had taken a 2-0 lead before Jake Fuller and Ibby Khan pinched the first doubles. Frame of the night was Murad Iqbal taking on his father, Mr P himself.
The youngster showed no mercy knocking in a nice 41 to seal victory. Jake Fuller took the next for the A team, a run of 40 being enough to put his side 4-3 up. Unfortunately the B team couldn't field a final player so it was frame conceded.
Up at the Borough visitors Rishton Golf Club took the opener through skipper Eric Whittle and then took three of the next four to put themselves within a frame of victory. Victory came when Liam Masterman finally found his form to take care of Borough captain Jamie Costello. Following on from her win over former singles champ Ami Dippolito last week Gail Costello faced off against the highly regarded Tony Howarth – and won again!
After their early season struggles Blackburn Golf B continued their good form with a 5-3 win over Hole I'th Wall.
The home team quickly raced to a 5-1 lead before Hole took the last two frames courtesy of Simon Thornley and Matt Taylor.
