Split loyalties for Millwall's on-loan Blackburn Rovers striker DJ Campbell

Lancashire Telegraph: DJ Campbell DJ Campbell

DJ Campbell would take his loan club Millwall beating Blackburn Rovers today – but only if his parent club finish in the play-off places.

Campbell signed for the Lions from Rovers in January and, although he will remain at Den until the end of the season, he is ineligible to play in this afternoon’s encounter.

The striker admits he will have split loyalties.

Campbell said: “I’ll take a Millwall win and then hope Blackburn finish in the top six.

“It’s a tough one for me – I’m on loan at Millwall but Blackburn is my parent club. They didn’t really want me to leave in January but they were very good about it.

“It will be a good game and Millwall need the points more than Blackburn at the minute.

“I’ve got friends at Blackburn and they are trying to get into the play-offs but at the same time Millwall need the points.”

Rovers face an uphill task to catch Reading in sixth after a run of just one win their last six matches.

But Campbell believes boss Gary Bowyer is doing ‘ever so well’ in his first full season in charge.

“Being an inexperienced manager, he’s come in and stamped his authority down in terms of what he wants to do and how he wants to play,” added Campbell.

“The boys there have taken on everything he’s said and the manager has taken to the job like a duck to water.

“Given what’s happened there over the last few years, the manager has done magnificently well to put all of that in the past and push on.

“He’s changed the team a lot now, brought in a lot of players and he’s looking to do things his way.

“I’m glad that the club is backing him because he’s a good, young manager.”

Campbell was arrested in December as part of an investigation into spot-fixing in football.

The 32-year-old, who has not been charged by police, remains on bail until next month.

"They didn’t really want me to leave in January but they were very good about it."

mmmmmm.

Probably one of the players on our books who is paid far more than he is worth, implicated in a betting scandal.

A relic of the days of gravy train excess before our esteemed (sic) owners realised that it takes more to run a football club than a pantomime cast of "managers", "advisors" and egotistical players.

Yep, I am pretty sure they were extremely good about it.

I was on here first but your post is shorter, when I saw 2 pop up I thought the troll had beaten me to it.

Mind you Mystic Mog is still probably unconscious after celebrating Burnley's 20 - 0 win over Leicester in advance on dole day, we all know it is exemplary in it's predictions.

Cue rant, just don't reply to it.

It ain't over until we need 4 points to get there and there are only 3 left to play for, not everyone above us is going to win today so if we apply ourselves as we have in the last three games we will still be in it.

Agree though, unless everyone above us loses 3 points are a must today and Tuesday, if that happens I think we will be 4 points away.

Strange that the first three posts all have -7 ratings. I think it's safe to assume he is up and we now know he has seven accounts.

I know Nick, but I am finding it easier to just take one game at a time. Got my hopes up too often this season only to be disappointed.
Not being negative, just cautious. Quě sera and all that!
