Charlie Smith remains on course to win back-to-back England titles after being crowned North West Schoolboy champion.

The 12-year-old from Burnley produced an accomplished boxing display to beat Chorley’s Michael Linfoot in what was the battle of the English champions.

Both boxers won national titles at different weights last year but Charlie proved to be different class to reach the quarter finals of the National Schoolboy competition which will be held in Croxteth.

The Blessed Trinity pupil was crowned England Schoolboys champion while at Sandygate ABC last year and will be hoping to repeat the feat at Roche Boxing Club this time around.

“It was a fascinating contest between two very good young fighters,” said coach Brian Roche. “Both won national titles last year so it just goes to show how good they are and how good a win this was for Charlie.”

Charlie was given an unanimous decision by the ringside judges to end his Chorley opponent’s own hopes of a second title.

He will now represent the North West in the national quarter finals looking for a win to book a place in the semi finals.

Meanwhile, Adil Hussain produced an impressive display on his recent outing in Macclesfield.

The 23-year-old Roche Boxing Club fighter beat Kevin Mooney.
