Barnoldswick Town 0 Glossop North End 2

BARNOLDSWICK TOWN’S winless run increased to six games following their 2-0 home defeat to promotion-chasing Glossop North End.

Second-half goals from strikers Kyle Riley and Tom Bailey handed the Derbyshire side a vital win and extended the Hillmen’s unbeaten run to 15 games.

Town, meanwhile, have now failed to pick up a win since Boxing Day and drop one place to 16th in the North West Counties Premier Division.

That means new manager Stewart Airdrie, who was appointed by Barlick for a second time in January and is yet to pick up a victory, will have to keep one eye on the relegation places, with just nine points separating themselves and Bacup and Rossendale Borough in 22nd.

Despite that, Town – playing their first home game in three months due to the terrible weather conditions – began the game on the front foot at the Silent Night stadium.

Energetic midfielder Harry Thompson guided Mark Threlfall’s driven cross just yards past the near post, before Carl Ellerton nodded Sam Howell’s corner narrowly over.

As Barlick sensed a half-time lead the impressive Threlfall saw his header from Bill Williams’ free-kick well held, while at the other end Bailey was inches away from finding the top corner.

The home side failed to read the warning signs however, and three minutes after the restart forward Riley struck a ferocious shot into the top corner to give the visitors the lead.

In reply, Thompson and substitute Kieran Lee were both denied but it was the travelling supporters who were celebrating again in the final minute, as the division’s top goalscorer Bailey dinked into an empty net after Steven Williams had been denied.
