England manager Roy Hodgson is in no doubt the 1-0 win over Denmark at Wembley shows there are 23 players good enough for his World Cup squad - but maintains it will give him a headache selecting just who will be on the plane to Brazil.

A late header from Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge - who had started on the flanks before moving more central after Wayne Rooney's second-half substitution - earned what was a hard-fought victory over the well-organised Danes, but one which nevertheless leaves more questions than answers for the England manager.

Few made the most of what was the last chance to make an impact on the international stage before the 23-man squad for Brazil is announced in May, although left-backs Ashley Cole and 18-year-old debutant Luke Shaw both impressed in their 45-minute outings.

"I am making a lot of experiments at the moment, giving people a chance to play who have not been with us very often," Hodgson said on BBC Radio Five Live.

"The pleasing thing for me is we are going to have four or five weeks before the first game in Brazil to work on our shape, to work on our game and I saw a lot of very positive things tonight.

"The things I think we maybe could improve, we are going to have a lot of time to work on that on the training ground, which is not something I have been used to in my two years because training ground time is often very limited."

Hodgson continued: "Looking at performances, you would have to be a harsh critic to say anybody played poorly or did not do their chances a bit of good.

"I have been very happy with these few days we have had together, with the attitude and the obviously desire of everybody to get on that plane and grab that shirt.

"It is going to mean headaches for me, but I think it is good news for England that we have so many players who are looking good and able to accept the responsibility. - Raheem Sterling, Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, even young Jack Wilshere, who has not played many games for England.

"I must say, all of those would in my opinion come out of the game with credit."

Hodgson will name a provisional 30-man group on May 13, which will eventually see seven players cut before the final squad is submitted by June 2.

England play a friendly against Peru at Wembley on May 30 and then tackle Ecuador and Honduras during a warm-weather camp in Miami, with the first World Cup group match set for June 14 against Italy at the Arena Amazonia in Manaus.

"All I can repeat, and it is an obvious truth, it is not going to be easy to get 23," Hodgson said, refusing to be drawn on whether he had already some names pencilled in for tickets to Brazil.

"I think maybe a little while back people would have even been saying there are not 23 players who are good enough, I think now most people would agree with me we certainly have 23 who are good enough and it is going to be tough for me to decide which ones I will have to leave out."

England were untroubled defensively for the most part by the Danes, but looked set to fail to net for a third successive match until Sturridge steered home a fine cross from substitute Adam Lallana in the closing stages.

"I thought it was a very dominant performance against a well-organised team," Hodgson said.

"We did not get the ball as forward as we would like or make as make as many penetrating runs as we would like, but I thought we put that right in the second half.

"Throughout the game I thought we were a constant threat and there were goal chances coming at regular intervals, but unfortunately we ran across not just a compact and well organised defence, but also a good goalkeeper because on at least three or four occasions I definitely saw the ball in the goal, but he made a miraculous save.

"I am pleased as well that we showed as much energy as we were looking for.

"I am pleased that players who don't usually play for England grabbed that opportunity with both hands and I am exceptionally pleased that the atmosphere was so good and the crowd enjoyed the game because it was quite an offensive display from our point of view.

"I am even more pleased we won it because 0-0 would have been disappointing result with that degree of dominance and of opportunities."
