It was ‘Derby’ week in the latest round of fixtures in the Dorothy Southworth Indoor Bowling league at Roefield Leisure in Clitheroe as the two Waddington and two Clitheroe teams clashed.

In the first one, leaders Waddington Red had a comfortable 6 points to nil victory over their neighbours Waddington Blue while Clitheroe White had a much tighter game with Clitheroe Blue before eventually winning 4-2.

Mat one saw Waddington Red’s Ian Jackson, Jack Arthur and Ken Barker take an early lead and, in spite of some sterling efforts from ‘Blues’ skip William Towler to stem the tide, ran out easy winners at 32-9. Mat two was a little closer but once again the 'Reds' trio of Peter Cunliffe, John Cropper and Kevin Ryder proved too strong for the ‘Whites’ and finished 19-9 victors.

The Clitheroe ‘Derby’ was a much more even affair with the ‘Blues’ trio of Jeff Cowling, Ray Black and skip Carol Sutcliffe winning 18-9 on mat one only to see their team mates lose out 28-12 to the 'Whites' John Hardacre, Paul Carlton and Colin Banks and as a result the ‘Whites’ took the extra two points for the aggregate.

Sabden once again surprisingly dropped points this time against Longridge Commodores. John and Marjorie Cooper along with Jim Maher losing out to Hazel Woods, Dave Thompson and Steve Malley by 24 shots to 13 while on mat one Val and Peter Warburton and skip Dave Cunliffe had a comfortable 40-13 victory.

The final game of the week between West Bradford and Hurst Green provided a nail-biting finale with Hurst Green taking the aggregate by a single shot! West Bradford winning 18-16 on mat one while on mat two Hurst Green reversed things and with a 23-20 victory took the aggregate by 39 shots to 38.
