Naismith boost ahead of mini-break
7:00am Saturday 22nd February 2014 in Sport
KAL Naismith is hoping to hand Accrington Stanley a squad boost for today’s crunch clash with Torquay.
The former Rangers winger has missed the last two games after suffering a hip injury in the goalless draw at Wycombe Wanderers earlier this month.
But the 22-year-old could be available for the Reds’ south coast double header, with the re-arranged game at Portsmouth to follow on Tuesday night.
“Kal will be coming with us,” said manager James Beattie.
“Whether he’s fit or not we don’t know. But he’s an integral part of the team and the squad so he’s coming with us and we’ll assess him as we go along.”
With two long away trips so close together, Stanley have taken the unusual step of not returning to the north west in between games.
“It’s a good time to get the lads all together and they deserve it,” said Beattie.
“We’re all going out for a meal on Sunday night – the staff, the players, the chairman’s joining us. That’s the sort of environment we’ve created.
“Hopefully we can utilise it and make the best of it.
“I don’t think there’s a problem with anyone’s spirits but it can only help.”
