DAILY SPORTS DEBATE: Was Accrington Stanley fine harsh?

Lancashire Telegraph: James Beattie James Beattie

ACCRINGTON Stanley have been fined £5,000 for appointing manager James Beattie before he had the relevant coaching qualifications.

The Reds will have to pay a further £15,000 if Beattie does not complete a coaching course by May 1.

But is this punishment really necessary, for a club who are not exactly awash with funds to start with?

Stanley are the first club to fall foul of the new Football League sanctions but Beattie appears to be doing a good job as boss, so the appointment seems the correct one.

What do you think of the decision to fine Stanley?

Yes its harsh on a club that struggles with funding. As the article states, Beattie is doing a reasonable job at Stanley, surely the FA could use more flexibility and a bit of tact.

Some would say rules are rules (not me) but it does sound pettty on a small club who can't afford!

It is harsh when you consider other club's have had similar situations & only had a wrap on the knuckles, trouble is with Stanley, we have to make sure everything is done to the letter, otherwise the book will be well & truly thrown at us.
