ACCRINGTON boss James Beattie admitted his disappointment after Newport County’s late equaliser restricted them to a draw.

The Reds led 3-2 when Peter Murphy scored his second of the game two minutes from time, but Lee Minshull levelled for Newport in injury time.

“We’re all disappointed to draw the game,” Beattie said.

“We thought we’d scored the winner but they got a man free in the box and got the equaliser.

“How that’s happened we don’t quite know, that can’t be allowed to happen, everybody knows that.

“It’s disappointing but I can never knock the players for the spirit that they show.

“We got ourselves in front at 2-1 and then conceded, so to get ourselves back in front again and then concede two minutes from the end is a bitter pill to swallow.”

Beattie was pleased with large elements of the performance, but knows they must attempt to eradicate the mistakes in defence.

Stanley have now drawn three successive home games, after matches against York and Southend also ended all square.

“I thought Southend were the best team we’ve played and to get a draw against them was great,” he said. “But Newport were very direct and when we played football we carved them open.

“We scored three goals but we’ve also conceded three so we need to have a look at that.”

Late draw, accy only scored what they thought was the winner two minutes before, stop making out they were hard done by if Newport didn't have so many injuries the would have beaten you.

If you were at the match you would have noticed the officials were so poor we were lucky to have bee allowed a goal full stop. we were good for the draw and unlucky not to snatch the win. They were extremely physical in their play, other officials may have shown the red card, they were lucky tofinish with ii men on the field.

I was one of the 150 odd that travelled from Newport and witnessed a Acrington side trying to con the ref with their diving, surrounding the ref complaining etc, what about the nailed on penalty appeal on our player Washington ,fair result at the end of the day but we were missing our top two strikers and half a dozen others.

I suppose you another who thought Bettinelli was feigning his injury when Rene Howe stamped on his chest? That might be acceptable to you lot but deliberately trying to take our keeper out of the game knowing we had no cover on the bench - you may call it tactics but I would call it disgusting behaviour - Howe was at it again later on in the game - this time digging tom Aldred in the head & then walking away as far as he could get knowing that the idiot of a ref wouldn't do anything about it.
Yes, we switched off for the seconds it took to score your last gasp equaliser and overall probably a draw was a fair result - your players' 'tactics' however were not - more than one person around me commented that the wrong playershad turned up & we were in fact playing Newport rugby team

Has it ever occurred to you that some of your players were playing the ref, bunch of divers spring to mind and then there's the surrounding the ref trying to get an unfair advantage by getting a player sent off,no my friend the only red card offence of that match was the one on Connor Washington after your keeper miss read the bounce of the ball and your player went through the back of him,two soft goals conceded by both teams and one good goal each
