We won't sell players on cheap, warns Blackburn Rovers boss

Lancashire Telegraph: Scott Dann is wanted by Crystal Palace Scott Dann is wanted by Crystal Palace

BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer has warned potential suitors he does not have to sell any of his players on the cheap insisting: “We are not a charity case.”

Rovers skipper Scott Dann is wanted by Premier League side Crystal Palace and Bowyer’s priority for the transfer window is now to reduce the club’s wage bill after he signed Tom Cairney and Rudy Gestede for a combined £800,000.

But Bowyer said: “If people are interested in our players and make sensible bids then we will consider them.

“We do have to reduce in certain areas and certain players that’s for sure.

“But we are not a charity case.”

Palace’s interest in Dann – whose equaliser earned Rovers an excellent 1-1 draw with Manchester City in the FA Cup on Saturday – is genuine.

However, the Premier League outfit have yet to submit a bid for the centre back and it is unlikely Rovers would be willing to let Dann leave for the £2.5m the Eagles are considering offering.

Bowyer has also reiterated his stance that top scorer Jordan Rhodes is not for sale.

There has been speculation linking Rhodes – who scored 30 league goals in 2013, more than any other player in English professional football – with an £8m move to Championship rivals Nottingham Forest.

But Bowyer said: “Jordan Rhodes isn’t for sale.

“I was never very good at maths but we paid £8m for him, then he goes and scores the most goals in the calendar year – more than Luis Suarez – and yet he is still valued at £8m. That doesn’t quite add up to me.

“But then again I’m no Carol Vorderman!”

One player likely to head out of Rovers on loan is Alan Judge – who is expected to sign for League One leaders Brentford.

But the midfielder insists that any temporary exit does not mean the end of his Rovers career.

Judge said: “I’ve still another two years on my Blackburn contract and I don’t see that I’m finished there.

“During the loan I want to show the manager that I’m up to this level.”

Rovers squad players Alex Marrow and Yann Songo’o might also go out on loan.

Midfielder Marrow – who like Judge re-signed for Rovers in the summer – is believed to be wanted by clubs in League One, League Two and in Scotland.

Songo’o joined Rovers in the summer after impressing on trial and the 22-year-old could be sent out on loan to continue his development.

I am ok with Marrow and Song`o going out but thought Judge did ok on the right side when he got a game. But we do have Marshall and King who can both play there and somewhere in the Ewood corridors we still have Marcus Olsson and Fabio Nunes too...both decent players on the left side who dont get seem to get any game time now (unless they are both injured)?

Must not forget we also have Best and Etuhu still not included plus DJ Coral (sorry not Coral - Campbell) whos future is unsure at the moment. So yes there are some decisions to be made regards clearing more players off the books but Scott Dann should not be one of them. The Captain of the team and the only player to play in all games last season and now we ccan add `goal-scorer` to his list of attributes. Not always foot perfect but always commited and a good Rover. I think he has benefited this season from having Craig Short on the staff who must be working with Scott (and Hanley) most days.

Keep Dann (and Rhodes) and we should have a very solid second half of the season.

We have to keep hold of Dann, him and Hanley are becoming the best defensive pairing in the championship, if we have to sell get rid of Best, his attitude stinks, typical highly paid footballer with no brains, look at the difference between him and the down to earth sensible Rhodes who has more talent in his big toe than Best.Orr is another one to let go, the fans don't like him since his stance on Kean and we have two young full backs now plus Marshall in reserve.
The season is looking great but it will look better on the 1st of February!!!! If we still have Dann and Rhodes.

Two questions :
1) Can you tell us what next weeks lottery numbers are?
2) Perpetual motion - is it possible and if so can it be the launch of a new technology to solve the worlds energy crisis? (technically 3 questions)

Marrow???? We are always one short at the soccer dome every thursday....loan him to me Gary. Tell him it's £4 subs and we play in red!

Arguably the worst central midfielder we have ever had and I hate to say it GB but a panic buy and without doubt your worst signing

Other than that, all is good.

Hi Frenchie I agree with all you say but sadly it is the big earners we need to get rid of and Dann is one of the biggest. Actually we are covered at centre half with one experienced and a couple of promising guys currently on loan.
Admittedly none are up to Dann's capabilities but need a chance.
Sadly we have too many who will never be good enough and whilst we do need to remove some the big earners do not have any resale value eg Etuhu, Best and Campbell. No-one appears to want these so to get some money in we need to sell one or two we would prefer to keep. Sad but true.

We have a host of fringe players that it is urgent to move on surley somebody must be working on this full time in order to get rid. Goodwillie, Orr, Olsson, Best. Pay Etuhu off and make shebby Singh Shebby get rid of the guys from Portugal before getting him off the books. If we want promotion the main back bone of the team must stay. Dann should not be for sale in my view as this would be a false economy especially if we don't get promotion.

Agreed, I suspect it will only happen if Dann decides to chance a third relegation from the PL on his CV.

When we are faced with transfer windows and speculation I always think along the lines of "What happens if he breaks his leg next week?"

Theo Walcott anyone? No bloody good to Arsenal or England for the next six months minimum is he?

There are hundreds of players out there that clubs are desperate to get off their books, pretty sure GB is keeping his options open.

i agree. Dann, for me, falls into the bracket of great to have, but not a necessity. he's not good enough to be keep at all costs like rhodes, and not cheap enough in wages like hanley.
he is certainly a good and valued member of the team, but a decent bid needs to be considered in order to reduce the bill. let's face it, it will be really hard to offload some of the others we'd really like to see go. we all know the names.

Agreed, I think Dann is playing better than at any time since he's been here.
It would be silly to let him go now. In any case I can't see Venkys wanting to lose 3 or 4 million on a player on top of the debt. There's others who need off loading before Dann, but these teams need to know we aren't that desperate enough to virtually give them away.

Agree with all the quotes above , however if Dann doesnt want to stay and play for the rovers anymore if any offers do come in then he has to go as we all know from experience playeres who do not want to stay only cause problems in the squad.Let us all hope he does intend to honour his contract.

More negative garbage from the Lancashire Telegraph. It really is a shame that after such a good week in the recent history of BRFC with two excellent performances and results and the permanent signings of Cairney and Gestede that this newspaper has to persist with rumour spreading and speculation.

So far in January Rovers have spent £1 million on two signings and have had two excellent performances against Leeds and City. Result? Gossip about selling players, of which there is very little substance to go at.

Meanwhile over the hills Burnley have signed nobody, keep talking about making a bid for a Brighton benchwarmer that they couldn't land in the summer and are out of the cup. Result? The Burnley supporting journalists for this newspaper say all is well in the world. Everything is brilliant. No gossip about clubs coming in for Danny Ings though. Wonder why that is.

Pretty much what I thought about Marshall, until he got a bit of confidence from a decent run of games, I think we need to have a bit more patience with the younger players than we do with the likes of Best, Etuhu, Orr, Campbell.....

Probably because Ings is happy where he is, unlike Scott Danns and Jordan Rhodes - both of which would fall over themselves to move away from their mid-table Championship hell.

Jordan Rhodes is worth 8 million now because he was only worth 4-5 million at best when you mugs had your pants well and truly pulled down when you bought him. Ergo nobody will pay more than 8 million for him.

Comparing his goal scoring in the championship to Suarez's PL goal scoring is just laughable.

GB fits No dad FC like a glove.

Danny Ings isn't happy when he could be earning £20-£30,000 pounds a week elsewhere. He's no fool.
Keep banging them in Danny the transfer window's only just opened.

Probably because Ings is happy where he is, unlike Scott Danns and Jordan Rhodes - both of which would fall over themselves to move away from their mid-table Championship hell.
Rhodes will force a move if he is told he is staying. In a desperate attempt to keep the peasants happy the No dads bought him from Huddersfield for 8 million when he was worth 4-5 million tops. He is without doubt a quality player who scores goals so his value of around 8 million now is probably about right. No dads won't sell him because they want 12+ million for him which is totally unrealistic and won't happen. Therefore they are happy too keep him for the next 3 years of his contract and let's face it you can't blame them. However on the flip side, Rhodes is getting more and more frustrated at his career going nowhere with No dads FC and with the prospect of nobody from the Prem or a Championship side with good prospects likely to come in for him because of his over inflated price tag there will come a point where he will without doubt demand a move.
He will want to play the best years of his career in the top flight not festering away in an average championship team who are sitting on a financial time bomb.

Poor old Blackburn chimps, you all know deep down that Jordan Rhodes is absolutely desperate to get away from Blackburn - he has instructed his agent to find him another club in January - a club that matches his ambitions and isn't a mid-table nothing team from the Land that time forgot.

Oh and well done for finally managing to break into that tricky Championship top ten - we are second by the way, in an automatic promotion spot where we have been for the majority of the season, and a mere (And unachievable) 13 points ahead of your set of overpaid, underperforming mercenaries.

Comparing his goal scoring in the championship to Suarez's PL goal scoring is just laughable.

GB fits No dad FC like a glove.
The bib and cone man as you call him has taken a team of kids and got them playing with confidence to within 2 points of the play offs with 20 games to go.
Let us see where we are after this transfer window ( Rovers and Burnley) and I'm definitely looking forward to the second half of the season. The only way is up for us.

Playing with confidence? You take one point from your winnable home games against bottom four teams over Xmas and are calling for your manager's head, you then win at a Leeds side that are so poor they lost to Rochdale a couple of days later, then scab a draw against City despite having a paltry 30% possession and apparently you are playing with confidence?

You might as well be two hundred points from the playoffs if you are unable to beat the likes of Birmingham and Sheffield Wednesday AT HOME, because you aren't going up that's for sure.

Blackburn - midtable at Xmas, midtable at the end of the season (If you are lucky).

There is absolutely NO CHANCE that you set of uglies are going to end up in the play-offs, none whatsoever. Basically two of the top four and Forest will take three of the spots, which means you will be fighting it out with the likes of Leeds, Ipswich, Brighton, Reading and possibly Wigan for ONE place.

Not gonna happen kids, get your Bowyer Out placards ready for the end of season mash-up.

Probably because Ings is happy where he is, unlike Scott Danns and Jordan Rhodes - both of which would fall over themselves to move away from their mid-table Championship hell.
Hell ? 2 points off the play offs ?
Hmm
Hell is having to risk life and limb every week in a semi derelict ermm stadium, Hell is jumping into a tin bath of cold water after the game and use the corporate communal lufa to get the Turf mud off
Hell is running out in front of a small group ( so not a crowd ) of hill chimps every home game
Hell is thinking wtf did I do to end up here in this sh1t hole?
Ask Danny Ings!
And if Ings pretends he likes it in medieval dingland (to avoid getting set on fire by the tobacco chewing hunch backs) just ask Owen Coyle - he was so desperate to get out he went to the paradise that is Bolton.....

Danny Ings isn't happy when he could be earning £20-£30,000 pounds a week elsewhere. He's no fool.
Keep banging them in Danny the transfer window's only just opened.
You guys keep hoping don’t you. If it’s not a sale it’s injuries you want. It really is pathetic childish stuff and shows how far you have fallen and how desperate you have become.

Dingles. Top of league xmas day(celebrating winning league),4 points behind leaders New Years day, that's progress, play-offs beckoning against the Mighty Rovers for the Dingles. Guess you Dingles will have to wait another year or years for the Premier League.
Blackburn - midtable at Xmas, midtable at the end of the season (If you are lucky).

There is absolutely NO CHANCE that you set of uglies are going to end up in the play-offs, none whatsoever.

HALF the season is not the majority, its half, evens , 1 out of 2?
13points. So? When we finish 6th and you are 3rd you will still play us in the play offs
Now just imagine the pain, you finish 13 points above us but we go up, and Dunny scores the winner. Burnley village centre wont stand a chance

Every body has their price in every club. Your lot are no different. The headline says they will sell, but it has to be at the right price. Every club is in that position. You sell an asset at value not at under-value. Looking at what you paid for Rhodes and the current market, you'd be looking at £9m as a price your MD would definitely take. Sadly for you, your current squad is not packed with Mega-talent so he's probably the only big loss you'd face.

Check out the posts after you embarassingly lost at home to Birmingham JUST OVER A WEEK AGO, about how Bowyer is a nice guy who is out of his depth, and how you have no quality in midfield or at the back, and how it is time to get another manager in.

Now, apparently you are finishing in sixth place? All because you have had a semi-decent week?

Not quite as deluded as thinking 3 and a half decades of derby dominance & humiliation is wiped from memory because of a 13 point gap, or because you once had a crowd of 15,000 to see you cling on to your League status makes you a well supported club - despite averaging crowds of 3,500.

Why encourage these dingle trolls who simply try to stir up hysterical reaction to every Rovers result and every Rovers headline ?

Two bad results doesn't get us relegated, and two good ones doesn't get us promoted.

All we can say at this point is we started slowly, have not been consistent but have certainly improved and are still close enough to challenge for the playoffs. Given the state we were in last season it would be ridiculous to expect much more.

What's happening in Burnley is no more relevant than the affairs of any other championship side, they interest me twice in the season.

Oh and when you mention slugging it out for the play offs with the likes of Leeds, is that the same Leeds we have just done the double over or the one you said was sh 1 te because they lost to Rochdale
Just asking like,

Dingles hurting inside for another 35 years
If Carling did season finales...
And you KNOW I am right ( or could be, you wouldnt bet your mud hut on it )
LOL you guys are just too funny.

Frighteningly deluded.
Not quite as deluded as thinking 3 and a half decades of derby dominance & humiliation is wiped from memory because of a 13 point gap, or because you once had a crowd of 15,000 to see you cling on to your League status makes you a well supported club - despite averaging crowds of 3,500.
That charlie boy is delusion of the highest order.

big kisses XX
No my misguided little chum. Delusional is thinking that Blackburn Rovers, arguably THE most inconsistent side in the league are somehow now play off candidates.

Oh and bring up the past all you like but at the end of the day, the same season we averaged 3500 in the bottom division I think you will find that Blackburn managed a paltry 6k TWO LEAGUES higher.

You are just jealous about the widening gap between our two sides, answer me this, would you swap your replay at City for an extra 13 points and second place in the table?

Jealous? Did you actually use the word jealous? Deary me, you actually believe that aswell don't you charlie boy.
To be fair I'd much rather have the 13 points in the bag rather than the cup replay but to think that there any single part of your dirty club me or any other Rovers fan would be jealous of is truly remarkable.
