Weekend non-league preview: Admirals ready for 1874 battle

Lancashire Telegraph: Mark Fell Mark Fell

THERE is a massive match at Victoria Park tomorrow when Nelson entertain North West Counties League Division One title rivals 1874 Northwich.

With the third-placed hosts on a seven-match winning run and the second-placed visitors – a fans-formed breakaway club from Northwich Victoria – having won their previous five, it promises to be quite a game.

Nelson, 3-1 winners when the sides met in August, will be without the suspended Ritchie Allen and Sakeel Abdullah.

Therefore boss Mark Fell, the Division One manager of the month for November, is likely to include two new signings in a squad which will be missing broken-leg victim Adam Foy.

AFC Darwen will be out to make it back-to-back victories when they welcome Irlam to the Anchor Ground.

Darwen boss Kenny Langford was delighted with his under-strength team’s 1-0 win at Ashton Town last Saturday.

He said: “All credit to the young lads who came in and did well for us. Aaron Brown, Marc Mullan and Kallum Banks showed that reserve team manager Matt Pilkington is doing a great job finding and looking after players that I can call on, which is something I haven't been able to do in the last couple of seasons.”

Bacup & Rossendale Borough will be involved in a crucial basement battle at Premier Division relegation rivals Winsford United tomorrow.

Colne travel to St Helens Town tomorrow. Kick-off is 2pm.

Barnoldswick Town are without a match.

Two of the country’s most in-form sides go head-to-head at the Tameside Stadium when Ramsbottom United travel to Curzon Athletic in a big Evo-Stik League Division One North encounter.

Second-placed Curzon are the only team in the top eight tiers of English football yet to taste defeat.

But the eighth-placed Rams are in good nick, too, having not lost any of their last 10 league outings.

Seventh-placed Clitheroe make the trip to fourth-placed Farsley Celtic.

New Premier Division leaders Chorley will bid to stretch their club record winning run to 14 games at home to Barwell.
