WESTHOLME managed to break St Bede’s firm grip on the badminton honours when their talented girls team won the under 16s competition.

The Girls’ Under 14 and Under 16 competitions were held at Westholme.

The competitions required a team of four and teams played a mixture of five singles and doubles games in each match against an opposing school. A round robin format was used to allow those involved to play as many matches as possible. In the Girls Competitions St Bede’s, St Wilfrids, Darwen Vale, Our Lady & St John, Pleckgate and Westholme competed with Westholme also bringing a ‘B’ team. In the Under 14s competition teams played a round robin and St Bedes and Westholme A which meant whoever won their match would be the 2013/14 champions. And it was St Bede’s proved too strong and won by a score of 4 games to 1.

In the Girls under 16 competition Westholme A and St Bede’s topped their groups which meant they met in the final. Westholme A ran out comfortable winners by a score of 5-0.

School Games organiser, Andrew Mercer, said: “I would like to wish St Bedes and Westholme all the best when they compete in the regional finals and hope they can progress through to a National final."
