TOMMY Spurr has urged his Blackburn Rovers team-mates to start believing they can push for promotion to the Premier League.

The left-back believes Rovers have the players in their squad to ‘frighten’ any side in the Championship.

But Spurr, pictured left, was one of the stars of Tuesday’s 1-0 home win over Watford, is not sure they realise just how good they can be.

“I just hope everyone starts believing in that we can be a part of something and that we are working towards something,” said Spurr, who knows all about winning promotion having helped Doncaster to the League One title last season before joining Rovers in the summer.

“The quality that some of the lads have got is frightening and if they realise how good they are then you never know what we can achieve.

“Coming from playing in League One last year I can see how massive a step up it is and if only they could see how good they are.

“But to be fair, the lads are starting to show it. Teams are frightened to death of Kingy (Josh King), Jordan (Rhodes) and Besty (Leon Best).

“Then it’s scary to think we’ve got people like Tayls (Chris Taylor), Marshy (Ben Marshall) and Judgey (Alan Judge) who aren’t even playing at the moment.”

The victory over Watford hauled Gary Bowyer’s men up to eighth and within four points of the play-off places.

Spurr said: “To get three points against anyone is nice but to get them against a team who a lot of people are saying will be in the top two is a massive confidence boost to everyone in the squad.”

Whereas Rovers swept side Bournemouth on Saturday with a sparkling display of attacking football, they were forced to show another side to their game against the Hornets on Tuesday.

Spurr said: “Last season was the first time I’ve ever been involved in a promotion-winning team and while this is a different league, you’ve still got to grind out those kind of results when perhaps you’re not as free-flowing.

“We were solid, everyone worked so hard and everyone knew their jobs.

“Defensively as a team we’re doing really well.”

“We’ve been doing a lot of work at keeping it tight and working as a back four rather than individuals and it’s paying off.”
