DANESHOUSE made it back-to-back victories in a football tournament that attracted teams from across Lancashire.

The Burnley team beat Galaticos 1-0 in the final thanks to a stunning strike from Ibby Khan to win the event organised by Head Start in Rossendale.

“It was a very tough day, in terms of weather,” said Head Start chairman Khizer Rahman.

“However it was pleasing to see over 300 people turn up to take part in this Sports Festival. “Teams came from all around Lancashire and not only took part in the tournament but strengthen positive relations.”

Galacticos reached the final after beating Real Darwen in a tense penalty shoot-out, then defeating one of the favourites Haslingden United 2-0 in the semi finals of the event.

Daneshouse cruised through the group stages and in the quarters they made little work of Starburst of Burnley beating them 3-0 before seeing off Sly Dogs 2-0 in a heated semi-final.

The final itself proved to be a very close with Galacticos spurning several chances to score.

However, it was defender Khan stepped who settle the match with a 25-yard screaming in to the top corner to win the game.

Khan won the player of the tournament award, scoring four goals while defending superbly.

Golden Boot winner as Danny Dickenson who scored eight goals and was very close to getting player of the tournament, as his work rate was fantastic.

The Fair Play award went to Unity because although they did not qualify through the group stages they not only played in good spirits but even came early to set up the pitch for the tournament.

Young Volunteer Anas Khatab said: “It was a very hard day but I am so pleased with myself that for helping and making the day a success.”

And Project Manager Fahed Rahman said: “It was amazing to see so many young people taking part. “In fact there must have been around 200 people there.

“It just goes to show that the spirit of football does exist.”
