GARY Bowyer said last night that he was unaware of reported interest from Italian side Livorno in Gael Givet – with the Frenchman’s future still unresolved.

Givet was left behind when Rovers recently travelled to Portugal for a pre-season training camp and is now being linked with Livorno, who were recently promoted to Serie A.

But the 31-year-old featured alongside a number of other senior players in a behind closed doors friendly against Fleetwood Town yesterday morning, with the rest of the Rovers squad involved in a 1-0 win at Crewe last night.

Asked about the Livorno links, Bowyer said: “I am unaware of that. Gael played this morning so that’s news to me.

“Gael was fine today.”

Givet expressed his desire to leave last season but still has a year left on his contract at Ewood Park.

After previous success at the club he has often cut an unhappy figure in recent times and did not feature regularly for Rovers during last season.

Rovers, who eased to a 1-0 win in a pre-season friendly at Crewe Alexandra last night, are keen to reduce their wage bill by moving on high earners who may not be in their starting line-up this season and Givet could move on, along with Mauro Formica.

Gary Bowyer is still pursing targets as he attempts to add to his squad, with Monaco midfielder Gary Coulibaly in his sights. Trialist Yann Songo’o featured in the game with Fleetwood.

Reece Hands, released by Rovers this summer, has joined Morton – following Chris Dilo to Scotland after the ex-Blackburn keeper moved to St Mirren.

Micah Evans has been on trial with Conference side Cambridge United.
