CHARLIE Austin’s move to newly promoted Hull City moved a step closer after Burnley settled on a fee, thought to be in the region of £4.5million.

The two clubs had been far apart on their valuation of the striker, who top-scored with 28 league and cup goals for the Clarets last season.

But Austin was due to undergo a medical with the Tigers today after the clubs reached an agreement, albeit a cut price deal for Burnley.

Personal terms and any length of a contract are yet to be finalised and the medical procedure might not be straightforward considering the 24-year-old has suffered three dislocations of the same shoulder in the last three years.

Having gone almost 18 months without a recurrence, it seems unlikely that this will prove to be a complication in the deal.

He missed brief chunks of last season, first with a hamstring injury – which ruled him out for the whole of January, while his campaign ended prematurely after he required an emergency appendix operation.

Hull had pinpointed Austin as a prime target following promotion to the Premier League, but were unwilling to meet Burnley’s £7m valuation.

Hull initially tested the water with a sub £4m offer.

With Burnley at risk of losing Austin for nothing next summer as he enters the last year of the contract he signed in January 2011.

It is believed a bid of £4.5m has been enough to force Burnley’s hand and sanction a move for Austin to the Premier League, just fout years after leaving non-league football to turn professional with Swindon, who have a 15 per cent sell-on clause.

Meanwhile, Burnley are believed to want to take Sunderland striker Connor Wickham on a season-long loan, according to reports yesterday.
