FOUR members of Clitheroe Dolphins tested themselves against some of the best swimmers across the north of England at the NW Regional Championships held at the Manchester Aquatics Centre over two weekends.

It was the first time in a number of years that the Dolphins have had swimmers competing there under the Dolphins banner and all four swimmers did the club proud.

Megan Davidson, 14, competed in the 100m butterfly and set a new personal best while winning her heat from lane eight. Jack Stanley, 12, competed in the 100m and 200m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley, setting pbs in each despite struggling with injuries over the previous few weeks.

There were pbs for 12-year-old Joseph Kenny as well in both the 100 and 200m freestyle, winning his heat in the 200m event by quite some margin with a four second improvement on his previous best time.

And Hannah Procter, 12, competed in the 100m and 200m freestyle, 100m and 200m breaststroke and the 200m IM and moved up the rankings in all the events with new PB times.

It has been a good few weeks for young Hannah who recently finished in fifth place in the British Modern Tetrathlon Championships which were held in Solihull.

The Clitheroe Royal Grammar School pupil, competing in her first event, impressed in the event that combined shooting, running, swimming and fencing Head Coach, Dean Sumner, was impressed with his swimmers.

He said: “All the swimmers have trained hard this year and I was delighted when they achieved the times to get to the Championships. To then see them improve further has been the icing on the cake.

“It is another demonstration of how much the club has improved over the past 3 years and I aim to get even more swimmers to the Championships in 12 months time.”
