Rounders England has come together with partners in Lancashire to provide opportunities to play Rounders across the county.

An investment of £7,500 from the national governing body is looking to increase the number of people who regularly participate in the sport during 2013 and 2014.

Local areas that will benefit from the investment are Burnley, Blackburn and Preston.

Dan Newton, Development Director at Rounders England said: “The partnerships that have been formed in Lancashire are a great platform to ignite the passion for rounders.

“Working through local organisations and agencies provides the opportunity to build on an existing understanding of what will work in their communities’.

“Rounders is the perfect, fun activity for people looking for diversion. Chuck it, Whack it, Leg it, Smile strips the sport back to its absolute basics!”

Lancashire Sport Partnership Development Officer, Beth Wadsworth is delighted the funding has been found to help raise the profile of the sport.

She said: “This investment in rounders will mean so many more people across Lancashire will be able to play this fun sport.

“Many of us remember it from school, and as a mixed sport it's a great way for friends to have fun whilst getting fit.

“We’re really excited and pleased to be supporting the partnership to get more people involved in rounders.”
